Spot Your Symptoms

Significant pain, which can sometimes be felt past the shoulder, along the arm.

Inability to move the arm from its current position, particularly in positions with the arm reaching away from the body and with the top of the arm twisted toward the back.

Numbness of the arm.

Some dislocations result in the shoulder appearing unusually square.

No bone in the side of the shoulder showing shoulder has become dislocated.

Pain in the front of the shoulder or deep inside the joint.

A feeling of catching or grinding in the joint.

Minor pain that is present both with activity and at rest.

Pain radiating from the front of the shoulder to the side of the arm.

Sudden pain with lifting and reaching movements.

Athletes in overhead sports may have pain when throwing or serving a tennis ball.

Pain with activities.

Limited range of motion.

Stiffness of the shoulder.

Swelling of the Shoulder joint.

Tenderness around the shoulder joint.

A feeling of grinding or catching within the joint.

Dull aching pain worsens with activity at the shoulder.

Lifting the arm overhead commonly produces pain (for example, putting the dishes in the cupboards).

Sleeping on the shoulder at night causes pain.

Weakness of the shoulder.

Popping or clicking in the shoulder.

Shoulder is coming in and out of the socket.

The shoulder joint becomes so tight and stiff that it is nearly impossible to carry out simple movements.

Such as raising the arm.

Stiffness and discomfort worsens at night.

A shoulder fracture that occurs after a major injury is usually. accompanied by severe pain.

Redness and bruising around the injured area.

A fracture is obvious because the bones appear out of position.

Pain in the front of the shoulder when you move your arm and shoulder.

This pain will especially be felt when you extend your arm out in front of you or raise your arm above your shoulder

You feel pain when the front of the shoulder is touched.

The arm may be red and swollen. In some cases you may feel a burning sensation around the area in the front of the shoulder.

The pain is often worse at night or first thing in the morning.

You may feel or hear a snapping sound when you move the arm or shoulder in certain directions.

Acromioclavicular joint resection pain and tenderness in the front of the shoulder around the joint.

The pain is worse when the arm is brought across the chest.

The pain is vague and may spread to include the shoulder, the front of the chest, and the neck.

If the joint has been injured in the past, there may be a bigger bump over the joint on the affected shoulder than on the unaffected shoulder.

The joint may also click or snap as it moves.
